Joomla and Missing Metatags
If you are like me, you like to have your Metatags like description and keywords filled with relevant content..
You could have Metatag generators for you website, or overviews of the content with a component like OpenSEF.
But what if you don’t use OpenSEF but sh404SEF?
In that case you could register and download the Joomla Metatag component form iJoomla.
But if you just want to see what pages still are in need of content for these Metatags.
In that case there is now a very simple but effective and easy to use modules, with two versions, one for the Joomla 1.0.x versions and for Joomla 1.5…
It is written by Dan Rahmel who also wrote two Books about Joomla!

And it is easy to install.
The module is installed as a normal module, but it is only for the administrator.
That is why is is listed under the Administrator part of the Modules and has to be published and positioned on the cPanel, which means that it will be visible on you administrator homepage (the first one after you login)
After publication you find the items without the Description and Keywords listed on a separate Tab on the Administrators page.

There are people who will tell you that Metatags like the Description and Keywords are useless these days.. for Search Engine Optimization that is.
But try and work on writing good solid page descriptions and use just up to a maximum of 10 keywords in the keyword field.
Use the keywords you have used in the page, and in the Title and wait for the next index round of Google.
The Descriptions field mostly show up under you page title and should be written as a small advertisement to bring you the visitors you want.

I have a question on my Joomla site’s title tags…currently I have my “title tag” and my “meta title tag” displayed like this “HDR | Okinawa Japan | Japan Pictures | Japan Photography”
I like the word separation, and think it reads well. However, when google indexes my site, is there a disadvantage to having my pages looking like this in search engine results? I want good CTR from search engines, I just don’t know if one way or the other my title tags is good or bad.

Writing your Title this way causes a problem..
You have mulitple times Japan which might look like Keyword stuffing.
My Suggestion would be to rewrite the main title, to something like:
Pictures and Travel Information on Okinawa Japan| HDR Photograpy
Which Title would you be more likely to Click on?
Please Check to competing sites Titles and think like your visitors…
Check Google with site:www.hdrjapan.com

Then you might see why rewriting the titles might result in higher Click Through rates..
I appreciate the suggestion, I will revise the titles this week. I also used the Joomla SEF patch and gave like 100-150 pages of my site titles that were like the example I gave, so going to take me awhile to get them all done.
Might I also say that I am not much of a blog reader, but I really like your blog for Joomla SEO. When I first started using Joomla I wondered “Gee, why am I not getting visitors”, then I got into the world of SEO and found out that Joomla out of the box is horrid for SEO. Keep the information rolling in! In addition, I would be very interested if you blogged about general SEO suggestions for getting rank/traffic.

I got lot of tips and informative suggestion by this fabulous blog. SEO needs work and work because without SEO we can not imagine about a site promotion.
May I add to the commentary about SEO for HDR’s website? It’s great to have dynamic and constantly fresh information on your main page but you want to have the permanent text explaining what HDR Photography (”HDR Photography”) is higher up on your website, The most important text and information for the search engines is the very first lines of text. Your explanation of HDR photography gets lost for both search engines and humans. You also should rephrase to “HDR Photography Japan”

But the fact that the Link did not work properly was not their fault, that was mine :-(
I used a plung for Google analatics that placed a faulty 20%rel=external after the URL.
It is fixed now so you and the other links should now work without problems again.
I will leave the comment from Guaranteed Houston SEO up, but more for others to see how things like these can turn against you… btw there are not ranking no1 on that term in my search ;-)
