If your are serious about Bloggin with Joomla, You need to get the Tags ready and working.
Tags are Important for Social Media based websites like Digg, Technorati and others.
I use two Bots on this site to do this:
Jtags from http://www.christopher-garvis.com/ that will bring up some Technorati like tags, these are taken from the keywords of each content item. installation is simple, install the Plugin (mambot), publish it, done.. It has just one drawback.. it does this for the Total Website!
The Icons are from the Tagbot from Fiji Webdesign which is easy to install as well. But if you want to limit this to a Blog, make sure you get to configuration set the right way.
I just have it shown in Blog categories, which means the frontpage and the Joomla Blog.
Please limit the number of Tag icons, as they take op some space and take away a little intrest from you Blog Posts...
To make sure you get the Information form this Blog via a Feedreader, I have set up a feed at FeedBurner.
They let you choose yourself what Reader you want to use.
But because the standard Syndication from Joomla does not provide a good layout with Images and links etc, I have installed the DS Syndication Component from JoomlaFun
Al tough the categorie you want to use is a bit strange, it still works fine. Just fill in the name of the categorie, and you will be off.
I used the have the WordPress Component to Blog here. And I really like WordPress, but this integration did not work for me, although it seems to work great on the Joomla Main website!
But now I am setting up a new Blog Categorie to work with the Basis Joomla Blog section part to create a Blog.
There will be several Modules or Components to be Implemented to create the Best Joomla Blog solution! I will write about each part as I implement it.
And the first one is already done....
I installed a Comment Component by www.visualclinic.fr to take care of any comment you might have.
Download and installation is pretty forward, and the selection of the Blog section was also very easy!.
So this is the First part of these Blogging Articles, stay tuned for the rest, so you might benefit from my experiences... Just read it as a Free Tutorial :-)
What I did not like on the old menu's was that there was no real structure, so now I think you should be able to find your way around on this site a liitle easier.
At least that is what I hope...l
Changing and creating menu's in Joomla is not that difficult.
Just go to the Menu choice in your admin panel, choose Menu Manager and Click on New.
Fill in you menu name, and your just have made a copy of the mainmenu module.
So now you have to publish this module before you can use it, and if your in the Module section, give the richt place in your template as well.
You now can start adding menu items or, if you want some of your old menu into the new one... select them and click the option "move" and select your new menu, done!!
